How often should I see the HV?

Just wondering.

HV has visited once (dd is now 4.5 months) and although I don't have any concerns, I'm not an expert so could miss potential health problems.

The one I met was pretty unimpressive, and I never heard from her again even though dd weighed 5lb 7 at birth so should have been closely monitored. I keep track of her weight myself and she's growing just fine. Should I get in touch with the local hv team?

dd (my third) had a home visit from the HV at around 2 weeks old (which is more than my 2nd child got) and then we visited for a weigh in at a month and for injections at 2 months, 3 months and 4 months. I don't expect to see her again until the MMR at around 15 months and don't plan another visit until pre-school injections.

They don't do assessments at 8 months/18 months anymore and all hearing checks here are now done at birth.

Did she tell you about the local Well Baby Clinic? There must be one nearish you.

In my area I try and see new parents two to three times and if all is well and there are no concerns I pretty much leave people to decide for themselves how often they want their baby weighed or seen. If a baby is small and in need of weight monitoring I either see the baby at home or ask the Mum to attend baby clinic.

If you are happy that your baby is fine then absolutely no need to see the HV unless you really want to. We do a check at 12 months here but other areas don't do even that any more.

Not sure where you are but in London there is a major HV shortage and I would imagine people are fortunate to get even one visit.

My last message was crap - not meaning to imply that if you are in London you should be grateful for your ONE visit - it's a crap service.

I see mine when I feel like it and at their assessments. So if I want to know DS2's weight I'll take him to the clinic.

Tassisssss, They do assessments here. The 8 week one including jabs, one at 6 months, one at 12 months, another at 13 months with MMR and then at 2 years. I'm not sure if there are any after that.

I wish they didn't though as I know my boys are fine and I spend half an hour listening to them ramble about useless stuff.

Yes I'm in London. I'll look into Well Baby Clinic, I'd like to go just to get out the house/meet other mums.
