DS1 is 16 months old and not talking. should i be worried?

He chats away to himself in his own babble and answers us in the same way. he understands stuff and when we say "where's X?" he points and says "ga". the closest he's coming to a word is "dadat" for daddy but then he says that to the dog.

he passed his hearing tests at birth and loves music so i'm not worried about that. he only has a dummy for bedtime and doesnt have bottles of milk during the day either.

No, imo you should not be worried at all - he sounds fine. Pointing is great - shows his language is developing normally. If he understands you, that's fine. You should not be concerned about speech - only language development.

Don't worry.Sounds perfectly normal.Babble is good,understanding is good,pointing is good.Hes still only young.

I have 4 dc's and none of them spoke till they were 2.

they say as a general rule that it's 1 for walking, 2 for talking so he's plenty of time before he gets to 2.

And by talking, I think they mean the odd mama or dadda, not actually orating...

I'm sure he'll be fine, he sounds like he's chatting away to himself and that's what you want at this age.

DS1 didn't start talking till he was nearly two and he's a very bright little boy. He's a bit of a perfectionist and I think he was waiting till he was confident he could get the words right before attempting them.

no. dd didn't talk til she was 2. now she's nearly 3 she's speaking in coherent sentences but it took a long time.

my fil didn't talk til he was 3 and is a maths prof.

absolutely no meaning in when they talk at all.
