18month old goes crazy if I leave the room...

It is just me and dd and whenever I leave the room she crys. She has just started walking and follows me all round the house, but if I go outside for a minute she goes mad. She wants me and her to do the same thing all day long.

If I am cleaning she grabs a cloth and helps. If she is drawing she moans at me as she wants me to colour in with her. She thinks I am her play mate or sibling.

I want to go to the gym but I tried her in the creche once and she cried after 5mins. I also want to start a course but think she will never settle in the creche. How can I make her more independant? She has always been clingly. I can leave her with my sister or mum, but she will often cry when I am leaving but be fine when I am gone.

It is hard when they are clingy. However it does pass - I know thats hard to accept at the moment when you feel like there is an imaginary elastic band between you!

My DS is still clingy at 2.6 but nowhere near as bad as he was at 18 months.

I would persevere with the creche too. If she settles ok with your family she probably will there too when she has got used to them.

The thing is she has always been clingly, sometimes she gets slightly better but then gets worse again. Its such hard work.

Hopefully it will get better, but I really do need her to go to some sort of creche as want to exercise and study and cannot do that with dd hanging off my legg all the time...
