What do you do about a toddler who loves to play with wires?

Not live ones obviously!

My DS is 15 months old, and he is fascinated with wires! ie, he touches and jiggles the wire attached to the hoover when I'm hoovering, he loves to play with my hairdryer (when it's not plugged in), he knows where I keep it and he immediately goes to get it when he's in our bedroom. My hair straighters are also a huge fascination. All the wires for the TV, lights etc are hidden away behind furniture in the house so he doesn't play with them.

At first I told him 'no' when he went near the hoover wire etc but then I know he's just curious and he's exploring them and he loves following me about while I'm hoovering. I'm always there watching him if he's playing with something like my hairdryer but I'm also a bit worried that he will think that all wires are OK to play with! But I also feel bad for telling him off for something he is just curious about. What should I do????

I think just try to be consistent. A 'no' then lots of distraction with a toy or a snack perhaps or similar?

My DD is currently obsessed with wires, plugs, toothbrushes (not her own) and scissors. She is 21 months, she will grow out of it.... just as long as the scissors and plugs don't get played with on the same day that her hands are wet from the toothbrishes.... just kidding, I am not that bad a mother,... well, not quite anyway!

You get very slim and fit jumping up every 5 secs to stop her

him, sorry

I'd let him TBH, as long as it's not dangerous ones, if it were me. Don't let him bite them though!

Ds was like this (and still love electrical things at 5). In the end, I let him play with the extension lead and various kitchen gadgets (none of them plugged in and he knew that that was never allowed). He loved it - for about 18 months, the extension lead was his favourite toy!
