Headbanging during the night

Our first post, so here goes. Our 2 1/2year old boy keeps banging his head at night time and goes on for a couple of hours. It has got to the extent that next door are being kept awake at night as well. Even though we have padded the bed as much as we can, he still finds the wall, headboard etc.

Most of the time he is asleep, but sometimes he does it to settle himself down at bedtime. Has anyone else gone through the same problems, or any advice that can help us to stop the headbanging and ensure a peaceful nights sleep.

My ds does this. My mum, sister, brother and I also did as children. My mum still does now she is single again! No advice on stopping it, but it does get less frequent now he is a bit older. He sings along with it too. We have had to move him from the room above us as he kept us awae all night. Will follow this with interst. Good luck.
