ending bedroom-sharing - dd2 really struggling - waking up every night - crying at bedtime

dds have shared a room since aages about 3 and 1. they're now 8 and 6. we've moved house and they each have their own room. dd1 really wanted to stop sharing and is really happy. dd2 is hating it - she quite likes the idea of having her own room - own space - etc but she wakes at least once a night - often more. there are tears (sometimes, tbh, they have a scent of the theatrical about them). We've been gentle and patient but if anything it's getting worse. has anyone else had this? any tips to get her though this? going back to sharing isn't an option. dd1 really doesn;t want to - and they have a volatile relationship at the best of times - dd1 would see it as vindication of her theory that dd2 always gets her way etc and would heap vitriol on her as a result.

I haven't experienced this - yet. My ds1 and ds2 share a room. They are 7 and 4. At the moement they are both happy, but Iknow that ds1 will get to the point of wanting his own space in the next year or two. Then ds2 can share with ds3. I know this will be a problem for ds2. It is all he's ever known really and he will find it hard.

I would guess your dd2 is also finding the change hard if she has been sharing since she was 1. I would liken it to moving a toddler our of the parent's bedroom. She may just need some reassurance at night - maybe a night light and knowing she can come into you if she is scared?

she needs to feel that having her own room is really special, which may involve a bit of creativity (or shopping!) - turn it into her secret chamber sort of thing?
