4.5 year old and extreme (to me) temper

My DD has recently started having huge temper tantrums. She had them from 18 months onwards and they settled down in the last year, but now they are back.

She will scream, scratch, throw furniture, try and destroy her toys for up to 40 mins at a time. If I sense she is wearing down I can usually talk her down by then. She begins to cry and in her own way, she says she just doesn't know what comes over her.

These tantrums usually come from very small things, but things that she wants to control but cant - like her sister no doing as she is told.

I am concerned that these tantrums aren't "normal" and also apart from ignoring her and occasionally putting her into her room to calm down, I just do not have a clue how to deal with them.....any advice?

hi i sympathise completely - my DD is nearly 4 and has turned into a monster recently

she shouts at us, throws things, refuses to do what she is asked, ignores me, stands with hands on hips shouting at us

we ignore her, we put her on naughty step, send her to bed, i have even smacked her (not hard before everyone weighs in and has me arrested)but she is off again before we know it

i asked he at weekend why she was being like this and she said ' i cant get all my naughtiness out' bless her. she is also waking every night and coming into our bed, and waking very early in the morning

hope you get some advice, i could do with some too. just offering sympathy and hope our girls are back to their normal lovely selves soon

Thank you chffinell. (love the name) Am sorry you are going through it too but am glad it is not just me!

Am sure sleep is an issue too, sometimes she will lie in bed for 2-3 hours singing and timewasting before she drops off.

"I cant get all my naughtiness out" love it!
