How long was it before your lo crawled after being able to move in circle?

She sky dives when she is on her front - On her belly with arms and legs up!

She is very happy on her feet and will 'walk' if you hold her hands. Everyone keeps telling me she will walk before she crawls but after seeing her move in circle today Im not so sure...

ds did that but he is now a bum shuffler

Penthesileia · 12/01/2009 21:57

My 7mo is the same! Rolls and rolls, but no crawling action (or at least, only once, and that may have been me thinking too hard about it! ). She too loves standing up, and would stand up all day if my arms could take it! I think the window of development for crawling and walking is quite large, so I'm not worrying too much about it.

I like the image of your sky-diving DD, btw!

DD2 did this too, and she didn't crawl until the day of her first birthday!!! Sorry! DS (7 months) is able to pull himself up to his feet, but can't even begin to crawl!

lauraloola · 12/01/2009 22:00

I love it when she sky dives! She waves her arms and legs at the same time - Very funny!!

I am not too bothered tbh - I am liking that she isnt mobile yet!

I think she may be a bum shuffler

Little Ff was a skydiving pro from 7mo, so I was convinced she was going to be crawling, but in actual fact she didn't crawl with any purpose until 9 months. (And now she is nearly 11mo, she is either crawling everywhere at breakneck speed, or pulling to feet on anything that is still for long enough, like Girldog's ears...)

plj · 13/01/2009 12:01

My DT's are 9 months and my MIL is making daily comments because they are not crawling. I am trying not to get too worried about it as they are mobile. DD rolls from one end of the room to the other, stopping occasionally to wave her arms and legs.DS does roll, but prefers to propell himself along on his tummy. They are a constant source of amusement to me!

hannahlouhoo · 13/01/2009 12:06

My ds is 10 months sits quite happily, but makes no attempt to move anywhere!! crys when i put him on belly! and doesnt roll either!(used to roll from belly to back)

Not worried at all as they all develop at own speeds! hope your dd is crawling soon!

plj · 13/01/2009 12:16

Just out of curiosity, how old were everyone's lo's when they were able to sit up on the floor by themselves? My DT'S are not doing this yet, but making good attempts I think.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 13/01/2009 12:19

dd1 never crawled. She walked v v early though. I think she was about ten months.

As hannahlouhoo says they all develop differently.

Sorry if I have hijacked this thread

Penthesileia · 13/01/2009 12:25

Mine (now 7mo) could sit unaided at 23 weeks (ie. I could place her in the sitting position, and she'd stay there).

She can't sit up yet though (ie. move from lying down to sitting up). She is permanently trying though: looks like she's doing mini tummy crunches.

lauraloola · 13/01/2009 13:12

PLJ - Dd was 5 months when she sat on her own. I have a friend whose ds is 7mo and he is no where near sitting by himself.

Dd cant sit herself up yet tough.

I dont think she will crawl. She has just been happily going round in circles but has been happier standing whilst holding my fingers and trying to walk.

Its amazing how different they all are in terms of when they do what. I suppose some are early at some things and late at others IYSWIM.

My baby can't crawl yet at 8.5 months (and neither can any of the babies in my NCT group who are all the same age). He can get about by shuffling backwards and rolling. He can just about sit up from lying down. He is only just getting stable sitting up though and I still have to put a cushion behind him as he has fallen backwards quite a few times.

pamelat · 13/01/2009 13:21

My DD crawled at 10 months. I think 9 months is "average".

pamelat · 13/01/2009 13:22

She could sit unaided from 5 months ish.

She learnt to stand (by pulling herself up) at 11 months.

I did get anxious about her not crawling but now I really wish I hadn't, they all do things at their own pace. In fact with her being a later crawler she has been safer than some of her peers and had a lot less accidents.

ThingOne · 13/01/2009 13:32

My DS1 crawled at 11 mo.My DS2 was an early skydiving, pulling himself up at seven months and walking by one. But I can't remember when he crawled. I was too busy making sure he didn't fall over too badly as he pulled himself up all over the place.

HensMum · 13/01/2009 13:38

DS did that for ages, the commando-crawled (ie pulled himself along on his tummy) at 7.5 months. Was happy with that for a bit then wanted to walk. By 10 months he was cruising around furniture and walking holding hands and he took his first unaided steps at 13 months. Now at 15 months he's walking properly (inside at least, we're having issues with walking outside!)
He's never, ever crawled "properly" i.e on hands and knees and once he realised he could get around on his feet, didn't commando crawl anymore.
