My 9mth old DS won't lie down for naptime - tips please!

My DS learned to sit himself up just before Christmas, which obviously is great in general, but for the last 2 days I've put him in his cot for each nap and before I've even left the room he's sitting up. If I leave him to it he gets more and more tired, but won't lie down and sleep and ends up getting really upset - even if I go back in and lie him down again. We've just had an hour of happy fidgetting followed by hysterical crying (him not me, but nearly!) and eventually he just flaked out. Is this just a phase he'll grow out of (quickly I hope) or is there anything I can do? I've tried blankets and grobag, nether seems to make a lot of difference.

horrible phase my ds went through and was same at night too. unfortunately it then progressed to standing up in his cot about a week later and he got hysterical if i left him or tried to lay him down again. it did pass though, think it lasted about a month. horrid phase but it should be ok if you just keep paying him down. i decided to stay with my ds and try to feed him to sleep and only put him down when i knew he was too tired to wake up fully and sit up again. might not be your choice but it worked for us!

That doesn't sound like fun - so far he's not doing it at bedtime, only for naps. He's been really good at self settling for the last couple of months too, thought it was too good to last!
