DS2 has developed an extremely HIGH pitched squeal whenever he wants something he can't hhave and it is painful to the ears.

He is 15m old, i don't remember ds2 (now 10) ever doing this but then he was talking more. Is this normal? he is not crying just making this squeal

Tough one... Ds has recently started screaming/shouting for no reason at all but I just assumed he's doing it cause he can iyswim.

Looks like he's doing it to get your attention when he wants something as you say and has probably realised it works so has carried on? As you say ds1 was talking more... Maybe you could try just explaining why he can't have the said item when taking it away/moving it out of reach and then distracting him with something he can have?

For example:

ds - reaches for somethin can't have.

You - You can't have that, it's not for babies/safe/it's daddy's etc, here, why don't you play with this, (pass appropriate toy) oooh, isn't it exciting!

Sorry if you've already tried this, it's all I can think of.
