he has actually been crying tonight and pointing at his ear, which i suspect means he has a sore ear!

hi apollo - my DS is very affectionate - loves kisses and cuddles so it doesn't always follow that they are withdrawn

He loves being the centre of attention and loves music and songs (we are both music teachers so it could be to do with that) He actually has much better musical ability and singing voice than his brother who is 9.

Ah bless him re his ear

Am always here for a chat xxxxxxxx

There aren't really an acid tests for ASD. My DS1 (4) has always had very good pointing skills even although in theory, he is not supposed to. I'm sure the professionals thought we were in denial or making it up but it's still true that he has never had any problems pointing. It won't do any harm to get a full developmental assessment done - not to rule in or rule out ASD but to get a professional opinion on his development.

really good that he was pointing Apollo (not because it rules things in or out but it's another sign of ability to communicate)

Yes - definitely good that he is pointing ! I didn't quite pick up on that when I posted ( I was referring more to the point about whether ASD children are affectionate i.e is it just another stereotype of autism) so I wasn't trying to say that it's not a good sign - although reading back my post it seems that way.
