Anyone any experience of this? 7do dd2's clamp came off today but her belly buttons not totally closed it looks like an open wound and I'm worried about it getting infected. dd1's was closed and I was just wondering if anyone knew if it would be ok?

is it oozing or bloody ? when is the MW next coming out?ensure it is clean and dry until MW can look at it

It looks like it might have some pus in it but its not oozing. Im worried about poo getting on it when she does an explosive poo. Do you know what they will do with it? Mw is coming tomorrow.

It needs to be looked at by the midwife. Did they give you any thing to clean it with in the hospital? Any navel powder?

My ds's belly button became infected - smelly with pus. I told to clean it using cotton wool and an alcohol based disinfectant, and then put bactroban cream on it in a very thin layer as it's quite a strong cream. It cleared up almost immediately.

give MW a call tonight, pus is not a good thing really, although not serious. don;t want any possible infection to get worse

Yes agree that it needs to be seen today if possible.

my daughter had these symptoms too. I can't remember what they called it but there was a small piece of skin inside preventing it from healing....they wrote it in her book but i cant find it.
I had to bathe it with saline every day for 3 months until it healed and it eventually healed but never closed if you know what i mean?? she's 2.9 now and you can't tell there was ever a problem.

My dd had an umbilical granuloma which sounds similar to what you're describing. The nurse treated it with silver nitrate; one treatment sorted it and it didn't appear to bother dd.

OneBoyOneGirlWithBellsOn · 21/12/2008 19:53

that was it! They talked about doing the silver nitrate thing but didn't do it for some reason, it did clear up but i remember being so worried at the time.

My DD had this problem - cord stump fell off at around 7 days before everything was healed. It wasnt oozing blood or anything but had a little finger like thin bit in the middle which was moist and gooey. I was horrified it would be a problem!

HV checked it and said we would keep an eye on it - and treat it at 6 weeks if needs be. One day it looked slightly bigger...then a bit bigger again...then it filled up with blood one night (!) - hv was coming the next day so I left it til then. That morning it burst (!) and left her with a normal belly button without any bleeding/pus/goo or anything.

Was all a bit odd and stressful but apparently fine. Spent a lot of time looking at it with the hv saying "ooooh that looks odd" lol
