My DS wants a baby...

...to look after! He's just turned 4 and has been obsessed with carrying round and cuddling pictures of babies for the last few months. He hasn't made much of the concept of brothers and sisters, although his best friends at playgroup are boy/girl twins so he's familiar with the idea. Also, his teacher there recently had a baby and so he knows that her daughter who attends there now has a brother, but he's never referred to babies in those terms.

I can see that he would benefit from having a sibling (I'm an only child, DP is one of 4 children), but it's unlikely to happen as I had medical problems when I was pg and at present am experiencing financial and housing problems the like of which I've never known before!

Is 'wanting a baby' common at this age, particularly with boys?

Mandyd my 4yo boy keeps saying "Mummy I think you should have another baby". He quite often says " I think you should have seven babies"

As I have a two year old and a one year old I am not taking his request too seriously

My friend's little boy is also 4 and he has been wanting to look after a baby for about a year. They brought him a doll to play with and that seemed to satisfy him a bit. Mind you since I had my baby in May, he has wanted to help me look after her.
