11 month old refusing the breast

I'm after some advice\reassurance please.

My ds is 11 months today. For the last 2/3 months he has had a breastfeed first thing, last thing and a bottle of formula in the afternoon. He also has 3 meals a day. Over the last week he has began really resisting the breast at night and hasn't fed at all the last couple of nights. I think his nap routine may be changing a bit, so from today I am going to keep him up longer before both his morning and afternoon naps and also give him his afternoon bottle before his afternoon nap. This may help a bit sort his routine a bit. However, I'm wondering if he is just naturally weaning himself of the breast. And this is where I'm getting confused! If he doesn't want breast before bed, should I replace it with a bottle - even if he is still sleeping through. Part of me thinks that maybe he just doesn't need any milk before bed, the other part is thinking that all babes have milk before bed!! Also, we're told 20oz of milk a day up to at least 12 months, but would it really matter if he's 11 months? Should I just get him straight on to cow's milk?

Sorry this is so long, but any advice\experiences would be much appreciated.

This sounds like my DS2. He decided at around 11m that BF was no longer for him having been exclusively BF up til that point (well except for solids obviously!). I did move him to formula from a bottle but he didn't really want that either. So as soon as he turned 12m he went on to a cup of cows milk morning and night (again not really bothered) and had 3 meals a day and 2 snacks. But mine have never been milky babies. I always gave them plenty of other diary stuff instead. Ready Brek is great as it has calcium added.
I am not an expert about whether it would seriously harm him to go straight onto cows milk but I waited until 12m just because I am a bit of a worrier!

Thanks for your advice. Since weaning him at 6 months he's had plenty of cows milk with cereal, yoghurt and cheese etc (like you), so I'm not too concerned about him not getting enough milk. Reading your post has made me think that I should offer something in it's place, even if he's not interested. Maybe my ds is not a milky baby either!

I will post under 'Breast and Bottle Feeding' in 'Feed the world' as you've suggested (as you can tell I'm new to Mumsnet!).

Thanks
