Moving DC1 into bed so DC2 can have the cot - any tips?

DS is 2.1 and DC2 is due mid-May. The plan is to move DS into another room and into a bed mid-March.

Is new room, new bed too big a leap? Do we need to dismantle the cot for psychological reasons then re-assemble when DC2 arrives?!

He's a really good sleeper - will it all go horribly wrong when he moves?

I had all the best intentions when pregnant with dd2 - move dd1 early, and leave a big gap between her moving out of cot and baby moving in etc etc.

All went out of the window for various reasons, and she ended up staying in the cot until she was past 3

when we had to move her (or buy another cot!) we decided it would be best if dd1 and dd2 swapped rooms (again, various reasons)

so, dd1 was turfed out of her cot, and room, dd2 went straight in and settled in nicely.

dd1 had a new (smaller) room, new bed etc, and was over the moon - she has loved her bed from day 1, and actually sleeps better in it (not that she was bad before, but it has made gong away a lot easier).

so, we stessed a lot about it, but in reality it was the biggest non event ever.

Ours are a similar age gap. We did not dismantle the cot, we just told DD that since she was a big girl, soon to be big sister, that she was getting a new big girls bed and the baby would sleep in the cot as cots are for babies. She went into the bed no bother.
