DD has suddenly started clinging to my legs like a limpet and isn't sleeping well! Just a phase?

DD, who has just turned 1, has always been a fairly independent happy little girl. However it seems that as soon as she turned 1 she grew velcro and now clings to me at every opportunity, especially when i'm out in the kitchen. She's got bad enough for me to have to either pick her up and hold her while i'm trying to cook (no ideal, obviously!) or distract her with whatever i can to just get 10 minutes peace while cooking or cleaning etc.

At the same time she's also decided that mummy doesn't need sleep any more so is now waking erratically during the night. Last night she woke up 4 times and the night before she was awake at 4am! If i bring her into our bed and put her in the middle, she wont sleep. She'll fuss and cry and moan and grumble and generally refuse to go to sleep. If i sit up and cradle her, it's a different story. She'll go off to sleep very easily. Great for her, but not so great for me and my heavy eyelids! She is normally such a great sleeper (7-7) and so we are not used to her being so out of routine!

I'm tempted to put it all down to teething as she has shown this sort of behaviour before when she's been teething, but she's not showing any classic signs of cutting another tooth. No redness of the cheeks, no dribbling, no gnawing at anything, no sore bum.

Can babies cut teeth with no symptoms except being whingey and clingy or is she just going through some separation anxiety ishoos?

Any advice/experiences would be most helpful. If you can also spare some matchsticks for my eyes, that would be of great help too......

I could post the same thing! My lo just turned 1, and is waking up all the time these past couple of nights. She won't sleep in our bed either. It could be that it's cold these nights, or it could be teething, or it could just be one of those things... I think she might have a cold, though. Bit of a runny nose makes it hard to breath when she's in her cot...

RG - no helpful advice unfortunately but just to say that DD2 who'll be one in Jan is very similar at the moment!
Had very restless night last night - lots of ups like you and is generally v clingy.
Let's hope it'll pass!

Blimey, were they triplets separated at birth?!! DD is also getting over a cold, albeit a mild one. I keep thinking she'll be too warm in her big sleeping bag (her room thermo says it's 21 degrees in her room) so i always just stick her 1 tog on. Maybe she's getting chilly (we only check the temp in her room when we go to bed and then the heating's been on all evening but goes off at 11pm).

Perhaps it's an anxiety thing in that age group then. I really hope it passes soon - for all of us!

I'd wondered about the coldness thing but she's in a 2.5 tog bag... and she's had a cough ... and she's been having more finger food - I wondered if she was hungry?

Don't you think of daft things - anything in the hope of an easier life!!!

Good luck both of you - perhaps they're excited about Christmas!

Well i went out last night and so DP had to put DD to bed. I told him to stick her in the 2.5 tog bag and i have to say she slept (to coin a phrase) like a baby all night! She woke up chatting to herself at around 7am this morning and was in a lovely mood. I think perhaps she had been waking up cold on the last few nights, bless her. I'm so paranoid about her getting overly hot that i've made her freeze at night!! Bad mummy!!
