My DS (2.6) keeps trying to suffocate himself !

I've just been up to see my DS who was lying in bed, totally covered (past his head) by his duvet. We have bought him a light cot duvet as I am frightened he suffocates but he sleeps in normal size single bed (hes a big boy for his age).

He was soaked with sweat, bright red from head to foot and breathing really heavily. My DH says that he did this the other night as well.

Do I need to worry or is there some sort of automatic, inbuilt thing that will stop you suffocating yourself in your sleep, and do babies have it ??

my son does this he buries himself under all his pillows and duvet every night

Both my boys do this (4 3/4yrs and 2 3/4yrs), I just pull em up a bit when I go to bed.
I think they just want to be snug

How old is he? Stillenacht?

he is 5 and severely autistic - i daren't go in his bed as he would never go back to sleep so we leave him, its the way he finds it comfortable (he sleeps in a homemade cot bed type thing)

Thanks, stille, makes sense, I think I'm just a bit paranoid about it.

I think my dh wants to stop me suffocating, every night I wake up he's pinched all of the duvet off me !
