Is this average for a toddler?

Our 17 month old boy has size 7-8 feet. Sorry it seems like a daft question but is this about right for his age?

That's quite big! Is he quite tall? Dd is size 8 as are many of her boy pals - they're 3.5.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 05/12/2008 12:02

My 16 month old is just in size 5's, so it does sound quite big but I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, is his dad tall with big feet?

ChirpyGrinch · 05/12/2008 12:06

DD1 was size 6 at 14 months for her first shoes so abo0ut the same.
DD2 was size 3 for her first shoes, but she was only 11 months!

DH and I boht have big feet though, size 8 and 11, so do you have massive feet?

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 05/12/2008 12:12

DD3 (just turn 18 months) has size 7 feet

GentleOtter · 05/12/2008 12:13

I was not sure and could not remember what the other two children's feet size were at that age but his seem really big.He is 79 cm high. His dad's feet are an 11 so not gigantic.

My 2.7yo is in size 6, and has been for over a year. He's quite small though.

geisha · 05/12/2008 12:17

dd2 (3 just) size 7.5 feet - she is average height, weight.

Niecie · 05/12/2008 12:20

My DS2 came out biggest in a recent thread about the feet of 4 and 5 yr olds and even he didn't have size 7 or 8 feet at 17 mths. Probably about a size 6 then.

Mrsmumofmonsters · 05/12/2008 12:20

ds1 had his first proper shoes at 18 months and was a 7 too. He is 5.5 now and a 12. he is "lanky" (tall and slim)

unfortunatly the question of whether its average or not is moot here as there is nothing you can do about it!

Bensonbluebird · 05/12/2008 12:34

My DS1 had size 7 feet at 18 months, he is nearly 4 now and has had size 10.5 feet for almost a year, I'm convinced they must be going to grow a whole size overnight soon. DS2 is 18 months now and has only size 4.5 feet. Both boys are tall, 99th centile.

duchesse · 05/12/2008 12:35

My daughter had to wait until 17 months for her first pair of shoes because she wasn't a 3 until then. I think that unusual though. She's now 13, 1m55 and a perfectly standard size 5.5 going on 6 in shoes. I don't think you can tell anything from shoe size at your son's age.

GentleOtter · 05/12/2008 12:51

I wondered if it was a growth spurt thing. He seems to have gone from little to much bigger really quickly.
I could never figure out the centile charts...

dd 17 months, size 3 but she is small.

wideratthehips · 05/12/2008 13:00

ds2 was size 7 at 19mnths. hes very big all over though...extremely tall for his age too

TrinityRhino · 05/12/2008 13:04

my dd2 is nearly 4 and she has size 8 feet

your ds sounds like he is going to be tall and big footed

GentleOtter · 05/12/2008 14:04

Trinity, please hug your dh from the GentleOtter family. Thanks to his advice we now have hot water AND heat.

My ds has size 7 feet at 16 months but he is already the height and weight of a 2 year old, he's over 80cm tall I think some people are just meant to be big, don't worry!

ElenorRigby · 05/12/2008 19:20

DD 15 months is pretty tall for her age (70th percentile) but has little 3.5 feet.

Lotster · 05/12/2008 19:24

Ref: growth spurt, my 2.3 year boy old shot through about three sizes in 6 months then stayed the same for the last few...

You say dad's a size 11 so you would expect your son to have bigger feet surely? My dad's a 12 and I always had big feet as a child, and am an adult 7 now.

Hopefully it will bring benefits, including good balance

noonar · 05/12/2008 19:25

dd1 had size 5.5 feet at that age. that was quite big compared to others. he's gonna be tall!
