Nope, but he is 2.8.

I have no idea what the age range is though.

Helpful arent i?

2pt4kids · 04/12/2008 19:11

My 3 year old cant

merryandmad · 04/12/2008 19:17

My 4 year old dd can- if I want her to walk anywhere and she is complaining I ask her to skip and it works every time (at the moment).

Only problem is if she wants me to skip to- I'm 28 and I can't - have lost my skipping ability .

Heifer · 04/12/2008 19:20

MY dd is almost 5 and has been able to skip at least a year maybe longer (but I remember at the time her friends couldn't)

Pretty sure they can now all skip.. but since now have moved up north maybe something here in the water!

Has your DD tried to learn to skip? I remember my DD trying and couldn't (did the jumping up thing) and then one day it worked..

suwoodolf · 04/12/2008 19:24

Just asked DD and all her friends can but she is 6.9. I reckon they 'should' be able do by this age maybe not so much if a boy though. They are all different though yadda, yadda.

ilovemcdreamy · 04/12/2008 19:26

My DS can aged 5.5 but have only noticed him doing it in last few months

norksinmywaistband · 04/12/2008 19:27

dd can and could at about 3.5
DS has no idea, just jumps and runs age 3

Jas · 04/12/2008 19:36

DD2 couldn't until she was in yr 2 (almost 7). She only did it with one leg before that, and looked very odd!

I don't think you can teach it, but she did learn eventually

My DS started out of the blue a couple of months ago - he's now 4.9 - but his older female cousin, 5.5, still hasn't got the hang of it.

Could this be connected to ability to do 'pigbag' dance (oh god I'm old) which I could do but neither of my sisters could?

thisisyesterday · 05/12/2008 09:10

thank you for all the replies, interesting to see such an age range!

DS1 and 2 can - DS1 8, DS2 5 last week.

brainfreeze · 05/12/2008 12:24

No, ds cannot - but we get huge amusement out of watching him try to. Some girls in his class can (they are 5 & 6 yrs) and he desperately wants to. He looks like my dad trying to run and dance at the same time

Hulababy · 05/12/2008 12:35

DD could quite early on I think, from about 2y. She learnt to skip with a rope in reception at 4y.

GooberKingWenceslas · 05/12/2008 12:37

All 3 can. (9,12,14) But the 14 year old wouldn't want me telling anybody!

Jux · 05/12/2008 12:53

dd is 9 and can skip NOW. She could throw the rope over and jump it when it was lying on the ground and then throw it over again etc when she was 5ish, but for some reason simply couldn't get it going properly until she was 6ish. Mind you, she is the sort of child who will not try unless she's pretty confident she can actually do something; she needs to think about it first and this can take a long time.

Are you worried? I wouldn't if I were you.

Jux · 05/12/2008 13:04

Oh sorry, I completely misread (didn't read!).

DD went to ballet classes and could skip at about 3.
