Car seats and taxi's ,........ what to do????

I can't drive but have to get my one year old from my house to my mothers twice a week so I can go to work.

I'm having real problems finding a taxi firm who will help me. We've brought a universal fitting car seat which fits most cars but its quite difficult to fit and getting it in and out of a taxi whilst I hold my wriggly little girl is proving impossible. Am I the only one with this problem? I just don't know what to do, I really don't want to just have my little one on my lap but I'm struggling to find another solution.

it's a total pain. i'm in a similar situation. i have ended up just strapping my 2 1/2 yr old in and now lugging an infant car seat around. this is all for an 8 minute journey to my sons nursery. if only car services had car seats!

not sure where you live but i know addison lee in london has car seats, maybe you could work out an arrangment with them?

Which seat have you got?

When I used taxis (with 2 car seats eugh) I put the kids in the back of the cab leaving one door open which I climbed in and fastened it.

To get out I took her out, put her on the seat removed the seat then picked her up.

You can carry the seat by the straps over your shoulder if you lengthen them.

I take it she is out of her infant carrier?

Some taxi firms have their own seats but, of course, you don't know what the seats 'history' is.

Could you keep dc in the buggy whilst you sort the car seat out?

Get a carseat which is easy to fit into most cars (we have a Maxi Cosi like that, Apriori?). Heavy, mind.

sorry could'nt post again this afternoon as i was at work. the car seats a britax and its really big and too heavy to lug around, wish they made light weight version but then i suppose they wouldnt be as safe.

Its really difficult is'nt it.
My little girls nearly 1 so out of the infant seats.

I'm thinking about catching the train with my little girl in her buggy instead and then getting my father in law to pick us up at the station as we could give him the car seat to fit in his car perminently. Means freezing cold mornings on the platform and we'll have to brave busy rush hour commuters but i cant think of another solution. the taxi is impossible. i really, really need to learn to drive.

Can you not get hold of a number for a black cab? They work the same as buses with pushchairs. Most also have the safety straps for wheelchairs so you can face pushchair to the rear and use safety strap to secure?
Or yes, it's trains and things. I have same prob as don't drive either.
