Boys are big stinky poos...

according to my 2.5 year old DD I thought I had a while before the whole gender gap started appearing! She told me she didn't want to play with boys as they are big stinky poos and girls are better. I assume this is something she has heard at nursery as she doesn't have any siblings or contact with older children anywhere else. she is using it in context now i.e. I don't want x to come to my house. He is a boy. I am a girl. I play with girls. so I'm not sure hse repeating it verbatim IYSWIM.

Is this common at this age and do I ignore it? I tried to point out the nice things about boys whilst agreeing that boys and girls are different, but I feel my reasoning is lost on a 2 year old! I was abit stuck as I wasn't expecting it!

I think its quite common, although two and half is early to have such a preference. My son prefered playing with boys although he is still prepared to play with a girl at the age of six. I am sure it will all change when he hits the teenage years.

He once said that "Girls are silly, because they giggle a lot and wear stupid pink clothes".

I am not sure what you should do. My little boy has always had plenty of girls for company. Its easier to say to "Boys are big stinky poos" than to say "Fred is a big stinky poo". Somehow its easier to hate boys as a particular group rather than to hate one nice boy.

Is she aware that technically, Daddy/Grandad/Big Fun Uncle Bill is a boy?

That is what I am thinking reallytired, that there is not much use in tackling it now because she is 2 and also because it is a stage that we will come too anyway.

Interesting point Colditz, she is aware that Daddy and Grandad are men and she has even excluded poor Daddy on a couple of occasions because he is a "boy" but usually she is all smiles and charm for older boys/men, its just the ones her own age that are apparently the problem! She also regularly informs me that I am a lady because I have "boobies for babies" eek! She seems hyperaware of gender atm.
