GRRR! FIL been teaching DD1 how to open the stairgates!

I am so pissed off. The in-laws are staying and FIL has been teaching DD1 (2 years old) to open the stairgates.
Annoyed because:-

  1. I have a soon-to -be-crawling 5 month old DD2 and really don't want the stairgates to be opened by DD1 when I have shut them.
  2. DD1 is still capable of falling down the stairs in her daft moments, and is even more likely to if she's trying hard apply some force to jig the gate open at the top of the stairs and it swings open.
  3. We may want to put a stairgate across her bedroom door when we move from the cot to a bed to avoid night hazards and to contain her.

That's beyond cretinous. Why would he do that?

TheProvincialLady · 28/11/2008 20:19

Agree, that is unbelievable. You need to say something pretty strong. And teach DD to say "FIL is a moron."

HomeintheSun · 28/11/2008 20:21

I'd want to ask him why he's being so stupid and thoughtless. He probably hasn't thought the whole thing through.
I had to point out how dangerous is was to teach my neice (fil's grand daughter) to sit on the dog and try and ride it like a horse. ie trying to do the same to strange dogs she may get bitten. Some people just don't think.

Sounds as dopey as my FIL...

georgimama · 28/11/2008 20:27

Not to mention Home, that it might injure the dog. Is it something about men in their late middle age that their brains have completely disintegrated? Is this what we have to look forward to in 30 years from our husbands ?

My step dad thought it would be a great idea to set off an attack alarm 2" from DS ear to 'surprise him'

RinkyDinkyPinky · 28/11/2008 22:27

at attack alarm and dog-riding!

I think FIL was trying to teach DD1 problem creating solving, not that she needs much help at that, the cheeky impette. He's a Professor so can't see past his own feet.

Good point georgimama about DH in future; he's bad enough already and in my bad books for putting his feet up whilst DD and FIL conspired. I got him to speak to his dad: apparently DD can't quite get the button on the stairgate. V feckin' relieved I am too!
