Talk to me about walking

I'm interested in when your LO's started walking, and the time it took from them pulling themselves up and standing against furniture to actually walking.
My LO is 10 months old and stands up leaning against furniture but doesn't need to do it for strength,it's more for balance and as he's my first baby I would just like some idea if it's a quick process from that to walking or if it's still some time ahead.

sorry, don't remember what age dd started pulling up. She started crawling on her belly about 7 or 8 months I think, progressing to real crawling about 10 months and then slowly graduated to walking steadily and unaided by 14 months.

judging by the many babies I have known over the last few years, I would say that there is no hard and fast rule... some of them pull up and then start walking. Some pull up and cling on for months. It just varies from child to child.

DS1 was pulling himself up on furniture from about 10 months old. He took his first unaided steps pretty much on his first birthday - it was 2 steps from my knee to DH's knee.

He then didn't walk unaided again until he was 14 months

My ds was pulling himself up and cruising from about 11m and started walking on his own at 14m. It's hard to judge as they are all different and will do it at different times. there's a thread running where people are comparing walking ages and the norm seems to be between 10 and 20 months, so wouldn't worry.

Useless at posting links, sorry

DS1 15 months, DS2, 18 months, DD1 10 months, DD2 currently 16 months and not really entertaining the idea

Plonker · 25/11/2008 21:27

My dd1 pulled up to standing at around 10 months, didn't crawl, didn't cruise just took her first steps. Was walking at 11 months.

My dd2 didn't crawl till she was 11 months, she pulled and took her first steps when she she was 11.5 months and then walked at 12 months.

My dd3 crawled at nearly 8 months, pulled up and cruised at 8 months (within the week!) took her first steps at 8/9 months and was fully walking at 9/10 months.

Rindercella · 25/11/2008 22:00

DD started crawling at 8 months, pulling herself up at 8.5 months, cruising shortly after that and walked at 12 months.

flippineck · 25/11/2008 22:07

DD never crawled, started bum shuffling at about 11 months, pulled herself up to standing the day after her first birthday, and finally walked unaided and steadily at 19 months.

Thanks for the replies. I have such a determined little chap here. Stands up ALL the time, that I imagine ihe will be walking sooner rather than later.

Ds crawled about 7mths, pulled himself up and cruised from 8/9 mths, walked with help at 12 mths and unaided from about 13 mths. It might not be any time soon!

lizziemun · 26/11/2008 11:01

Both dd's were walking by 10mths.

My son is just approaching a year, he's been crawling since 6 months and pulling himself up since just after that. He's been cruising for at 3-4 months. He can stand unaided for about 10 minutes playing with something and stand up from sitting without holding onto anything.

He has taken a couple of tiny little unaided steps but he's still not walking!

I was absolutely convinced he'd be walking by 10 months at the latest but there really is no telling.

ok then, I will get on with some housework rather than waiting with baited breath with the camcorder then.
