Hi, I am hoping for advice as to how I can help her not be so sick she possetts up after nearly every feed and she and I are covered - its a real pain!

She hasn't got reflux as she is putting on huge amounts of weight and she really is a lovely contented little baby, so I am very lucky that the only moan I have is this, but advice would be really welcome on how I can do things differently to stop the puking!

Ta!

ps she is BF going between 3-4 hrs between feeds

My ds had reflux, quite badly. He was putting on a ton of weight, he was on 98th centile and at one point went well over it. He was bringing up an awful lot of milk with every feed which is not normal. Was at the dr's a few times where he kept telling me it was viral. Finally got referred to hospital where they diagnosed reflux and he was put on a prescription formula that worked wonders.
That was our experience anyway.
The doctor at hospital said it can pass on it's own when the muscle at the top of the stomach strengthens.
Try keeping baby upright for about 45mins after a feed to encourage everything to stay down, the advice I was given at hospital

I had this with ds1 and ds2. Very happy, gained weight fine, but brought up tonnes and tonnes of milk. I was told by doctors it was a laundry problem only. Ds3 who is now 4 months has more classic reflux to accompany the spitting up. In hindsight, I would guess that ds1 and ds2 did also have reflux but in a milder form.

Lily - It is reflux. DD put on weight and was happy little soul but every bottle she had she threw half of it back up again.

She didn't stop it till we weaned her.

interesting what you all say about reflux, I asked HV if it was reflux and she instantly dismissed it as dd is putting on weight.

Anything other than keeping her upright to help? e.g my diet?

thanks for replys!

I didn't bf, so don't know anything at all about whether or not your diet would have any affect.
You could speak to your doctor about gaviscon, we tried it for a few weeks and the sickness settled down but they wanted to keep ds on it for the entire time he's having milk which I wasn't happy with.

My HV told me I was overfeeding and that's why he was being sick which was rubbish, he'd do it no matter how much/little I'd give him.

Sure you'd be able to get some info from doing a google search or speak to gp.

Goodluck

Your diet could definately be a factor. Reflux is known to be aggrevated by dairy in the diet of the mum. I cut dairy out and it made a big difference to his pain and colic symptoms, but not the throwing up of milk.

My son was also putting on weight and 98 centile and had reflux. Didn't stop until we weaned - however gaviscon did help him
