Should I worry about new sleep problems

My ds is 3.2 and over the past two weeks he has gone from sleeping all night and waking at 6am to waking up 2-3 times a night crying. He only wants me and keeps telling me that his bedroom is scary. We have a night light on and when I ask him what is scaring him he does not know. We have ended up with him in our bed at five in the morning at which time he falls asleep. He will not go to sleep at night without me there although he only usually takes 15-20 minutes. We have a story and he is usually asleep by the end. I am sorry for the long message but I work full time in a pressured job and losing this sleep is making me feel very ill.
Has anyone got any advice.

Ohhhh shite. Ms DS is just 3, and these last few days he has been asking for the light to stay on as the room is 'too dark' (even though we have a night light). I guess this is yet another new phase which will destroy my sleep yet again. yipee. I just hope you have a good coffee maker at work, because I have no advice, sorry, just sympathy.
