dd 2.7 2nd potty training attempt is disaster - DH making her cry!!

Oh god here is a downside of being the working parent while DH is at home with kids. Phonecalls from cross DH whop says he is screwing up thwe kids!

We tried to get dd2 out of nappies in the summer when she was 2.4 or so. She will sometimes do a wee on the loo before bath but that's about it. She loves wearing pants.

DH said he'd try again starting today. I just rang home and dd is in floods because she won't go on the potty or loo and he's being trying to ake her. And opf course she's wet herself a copuple of times and is upset.

By trying to force her to go on the potty and making her cry have we completely messed it up now? i'm so worried that she'll be scared well maybe not for life but for quite a long time.
I'm so sad to be at the office when it sounds like she's suffering...and so's DH!

Back in nappies, try in a couple of months or so

She won't do it if she's pissed off/stressed/upset

a few things to try

do you have a big stable potty with arms? Made a BIG differnce with DS and I put the potty in front of Cbbeebies (if you anywhere near west london you can borrow mine)

put her in pull-ups (I know other people hate them but it worked for us).

Sit her down with a book on the potty and she gets a chocolate buitton everytime she sits on it for a story. Then she gets a button everytime she sits on it for a wee etc etc

If that doesn;t work give up and try again in a month or so.

and pants off at home until she's potty trained.

How many times have other people stopped & started with potty trainming?

I only ever seem to hear success stories from neighbours and friends.

once I strated I stuck with it - I took a decision (knowing my DS) that once we starte dwe shouldn't go backwards. But then I did everything everyone tells them not to do...

I used pull ups
I did make him sit on teh potty (which he cried about on and off for about a week)
I did bribe him with chocloate buttons

etc etc

But I was very relaxed about it personally, did lots of cheering and clapping of the smallest victory and although he wasn't potty trianed in a week as some people seem to manage (it took a month or two) it really wasn;t that stressful for either of us.

We're about to try going dry at night as he seesm to have got there on his own (he's three at the end of the month) and has been dry in the day for about 4 months now.

I would leave it.
Had horrendous time with DD1. So waited until DD2 was a couple of months older than yours also due to fact had another baby. Much easier.

Thanks again. It would probably be much easier if i was a SAHM..rather than trying to advsie/support a grumpy DH from a distance!

Exact same as pushchair DD1 disaster, DD2 put it off until she was 2.9y due to new baby, she did it in a week.

IMHO they have to pee on the carpet a few times to feel the sensation of being wet down their legs. It must be tough going from well going all the time when you want to to feeling ready to go, then getting to the potty on time.

I would have a break now, start again in a month and don't go back. Start at the weekend when there are two of you around or take some days off work go nowhere. Agree a reward for sitting on the potty is a good thing.

We also have a Potty Training book and maybe you could start reading that to her, I ad lib to make it more relevant to them too, for example, Molly is the same age as you DD2 and she has decided that nappies are for babies and big girls wear pants like DD1 does. Oh theres her potty what colour is it, what colour is your potty etc?

I'd leave it, too. Try again in 6 or 8 weeks, when the crying episode is a distant memory. Or maybe over Xmas if you have some time off?

ds took well to potty training at 2.3 gave up at 2.4 and started again at 2.6 gave up at 2.7

was dry at 3.5 as soon as in pants no looking back

I would leave it until she is ready, but when we felt our DS was ready we tried a star chart ( with tractor stickers etc) - simple but effective for him anyway! Don't you get worried about it! We started too soon, it's just not worth the worry to all concerned!

I am WOHM tonton so its not impossible - I "trained" DS at weekends at first then got him dry at my mums then CM's in stages. He seemed to cope with it OK!
