Bugaboo - when into the pushchair bit and what about naps?

Sorry if this is the wrong topic but haven't posted since I was pregnant and am confused by all these post-pregnancy divisions!

Anyway, I have a four and a half month old and I was wondering when it was the right time to change his Bugaboo from pram to pushchair? I think he'd appreciate sitting up and looking around, partic. when in a shop/cafe and awake (can't always take him out of pram or use Baby Björn). However is it too early ie is the pushchair part like a car seat in that they shouldn't be in it too long when small? If it is ok is it alright for naps too? At the moment my son has his two 1hr daytime naps in his pram not his cot as I often need to rock him to sleep.

Thanks so much everyone and sorry if this is a very obvious and 'it's up to you' question!

On my bugaboo instructions it says from around 4 months a healthy term baby should be okay for up 2 2 hours in the reclined position - so similar to the car seats.

Use a small sheet and/or blankets to pad out the bucket shape make it shallower as that will make it better for his back.

Should be fine MIP and i like CarGirl always pad a seat to make it softer. A small rolled towel in the bucket will lessen the dip and make DS more reclined in the hip area.

Thank you both! The padding is a great tip. If you pad it can the baby be in for longer (ie if the baby napped and then went out for a walk taking one past 2 hrs)? At what age is it completely ok? 6 months?

yes, should be fine, tho i wouldn;t do it everyday, you could alsways slip in an extra folded blanket when it is nap time to lessen the angle and remove when awake.

each baby is different if your DS isn't napping as well or as long as before then you know he isn't comfortable if it is ina place /situation familiar to you both.

oops, please excuse the typo's have sore fingers and plasters are unravelling a bit.

Both my DC went into the pram part at around 5 months and have both had very long naps in there on a regular basis....my DD currently naps everyday in it for at least 1.5hrs - only chance she has cause we have to do pre school drop off and pick up, so she can nap longer if in the buggy. Probably not ideal, but that's just the way it is! and at least it's an extremely comfy buggy for her!

i think the shape is good for a napping baby and would not pad it out
its nice and snug and am considering moving ds to it at 4 months
