Hungry baby?

Hi,

My son is showing all signs of being hungry - he is needing a feed more regularly and is draining 8oz bottles. I am slowly putting him on to Hungry Baby formula (as I didn't want to upset his tummy) and we are on to 3 feeds a day using this formula. This seemed to have helped up until the last few days when he has became grumpy again.

I am starting to wonder if I should try and give him some baby rice (he is, however, only 4.5months). The only thing that is stopping me is the fact that he still sleeps from 7.30pm to 7.00am. If he was hungry, would he be waking up in the night or is he so used to sleeping through that it doesn't wake him?

Hi,

Probably not what you want to hear, but I have to say 3 feeds a day at 4.5 months sounds really, really few. At that age my DS was having between 6 & 7 6-8oz feeds a day I didn't consider him to be a particularly hungry baby.

He could be grumpy for all sorts of reasons; hungry, tired, lonely, bored, teething, belly-ache, wind etc...and using the bottle as a comfort.

If it was me (and I stress IF it WAS me) unless he's shooting-of-the-top-of-the-chart fat, or getting so full he's throwing up it all up, I would go back to the standard milk and just feed him whenever he wants as much as he wants.

Sorry - meant that I have swapped 3 of his feeds - not that I am only giving him 3 feeds!! He has 5-6 feeds a day. He is a big baby (on the 99th percentile) and he is bringing quite a bit up because he can't handle the volume. Maybe I should feed him more often but less at each feed?

Ah, I was gonna say! LOL, Doh!

I found small and frequent worked for me (we we're still on 4oz until 4mths) so it's worth a try.
