When do they start to ask why?

Dd asked me why a couple of things yesterday.

Wondering if she's parroting phrases or actually asking why.

3.5 now asks why? why? why?
after 3-4 whys i ask her " Why are you asking why?"

How old is she Broccli? My DD is 2.2 years and doesn't yet but I suspect it's not that far off. We have lots of questions as to who it that, what is that, what's that noise etc etc and I can see sometimes she's not satisfied with the answer until I've expanded a bit.

DS never really got to that phase (thankfully!) He's 3.5 now and has only said it when he actually means it. He hasn't ever repeatedly said like some children do.

She's 2.6.

She wanted to know why the rain was making us wet, why the tree was so high, and why her wall was all white. The first 2 could have come from a book or cbeebies I guess.
