How do I discourage 14mo DS from banging his head?

DS2 is 14mo, and when he gets tired/frustrated/stopped from flinging cds from shelf, he bangs his head on walls/floor/doors.
ATM, I'm ignoring it, hoping that if I dont give it any attention, he will stop.
Am I doing the right thing, or should I remove him from doing it?
Short of covering the entire house in bubble wrap, not quite sure what do do.

He's just woke up, but will check back later.

hi,
my ds does the same thing i was worried about it and had a word with health visitor and she told me not to worry they just do it out of frustration they may bruise there head but they cant do any permanent damage dont worry he will grow out of it.
i know it is hard try and ignore it.
hope this helps.

Ignore it, I think a lot of them do it when they are tired or frustrated. Also experimenting what different sensations feel like. i just try and ignore it then when he's stopped for a bit I quickly distract him and hope he's forgotten what he was doing! My ds is crafty though as he knows to only head butt soft stuff like the sofa and his teddies, he found out the floor hurts!

Thanks. He only does it when he is tired, or stopped from doing something he shouldnt (quite headstrong for such a young boy). I'm hoping ignoring works - although he's been doing it for a couple of weeks now, and taking no notice doesnt seem to deter him.
Oh well, suppose he'll grow out of it in time.

My ds did this. It's upsetting isn't it! I agree, ignore. I initially paid him attention, stopping him and telling him he was too precious to hurt, blah blah blah. You can imagine the effect that had...

Phase passed. Keep repeating the mantra.
