Sudden cot terror

DS (7 months) has always gone to bed just fine, no yelling or crying, just fidgets for a bit then falls asleep. For the last two weeks he has screamed the house down for ages every time he goes to bed. He just stands up holding the bars, crying and screaming like he's been stabbed. I am assuming that it is some kind of separation anxiety/awareness of self thing and he thinks he is being left forever? With a LOT of PUPD we get there in the end, but I don't get it. He hasn't had any kind of fright in there that I know of. ???????

7 months is a fairly common time for them to develop separation anxiety so that is probably it. It may also be that he can stand up, but not sit down again, so stands up to protest and then cannot get back down? I know that happened with my first and I had to teach her to sit back down and I read somewhere,or was told, that it is fairly common. I hope it sorts itself out soon and that that is some help.

He can get back down ok. Any ideas, anyone as to what is best way forward? PUPD? CIO? He is now freaking out for daytime naps too. Very overtired.
