Any advice on how to get an 11month old to sleep through?

My 11month old refuses to sleep through. We've tried controlled crying and alttantly ignoring him but he still refuses to sleep. He's in the room with his sister which means she's getting woken up and I have to deal with a tired and whingey toddler the next day as well as the 11month old. Having very little sleep myself I'm not up to the tasks of the day and find myself getting really impatient with them both which I hate. Can anyone give me any advice on this cos I'm really not enjoying life right now.

Have you tried the pick up put down method as outlined in the book 'The Baby Whisperer'...we tried this method at around 6 months when we were cutting out my son's 3am feed (we had ascertained he wasn't actually hungry) and whilst I was a little sceptical at first we resolved to give it a try...the first night was horrid and after doing it for a couple of hours I gave up and fed him but we tried again the next night and it only took us an hour to get him back to sleep, the following night 15 minutes and he has been sleeping through till around 6am ish since then. I am sure some other posters will have some other great ideas but this worked for us and I also wanted to encourage some other posters. Good luck!
