How/when do babies sit themselves up?

Dd is 7 months and has been sitting unaided for about 8 weeks.

At what stage do they learn to sit themselves up from laying down?

And how; is it literally sit up and semi roll and straighten?

Think they do it from the side, like a semi-roll, yes. In saying that my ds sits on his knees and not his bum (but I sit like that a lot too) as he learnt to crawl first. He flips over, crawls up to something and pulls himself up to balance on his knees.

Think its very varied but for mine 9 months at almost exactly the same time she learned to crawl.

Thank you, she's almost crawling and quite often rolls onto one hip and if she shuffled a bit she'd be sitting, that's what made me wonder

Dd must have been listening because .....

She just went from laying on front to sitting by her self
