How to get rid of DS's phlegm

DS had a sickness bug and cough last week, both have gone but he still has quite a lot of phlegm in his throat - sounds like he needs to clear his throat! The problem is he eats and then coughs because of the phlegm and this makes him throw up - it's been going on over a week - what can I do to help him out do you think?

I have the same issue at the moment bluestripes. DD is fine during the day but when she has been in bed a few hours (usually about 130am) the phlegm builds up so much she is sick.

Is there anyone out there who can help????

Do dramatic exagerrated coughs they think its funny, copy and bingo... throat cleared. Should have asked, how old - obviously wont work with a really lo.

My DS is so phlegmy he's sick too!
DS only has goats milk - does that count as dairy?

BlueBumedFly · 24/10/2008 13:06

Thanks Pitchounette, don't mean to sound obstructive but her last bottle is soooooo loved I am not sure I could get her down without it. Do you think giving a formula instead of full cows milk would help as a substitute?

also got the same with dd2 at the min...throws up every morning because phlegm is sitting on her chest

I have been watering down her bedtime milk and she has had juice or water in the day but not so bad as she is 21mths

How old is your DS bluestripes?

Gosh, I have the same with my 8-month-old DS. He has this terrible hacking cough and wakes up in the middle of the night, coughing like he couldn't catch his breath! I thought it was teething at first (got his first tooth last week) but went to a friend's today and her LO has the same bug too! It's terrible isn't it? We tried to force some calpol into him and that made him throw up but actually then clear his throat and he slept really well after that. Not going to do that on purpose of course... Try giving him lots of water especially when he coughs. I think inevitably some food will come out but water does seem to help him keep the food down a bit more.
