Is it safe to let a 10 month old sleep with a soft toy?

My little girl just won't go to bed now without her favouite teddy bear. I've been sneeking into her room and taking it off her once shes asleep but when she wakes in the night she crys when she can't find it.

Obviously I'll keep taking it away from her if its still considered a risk to leave it in the cot but I just wondered if anyone has any guidelines on when its okay to leave it in there. I've looked but can't find anything.

Why are you taking it off her? My dd sleeps with about 10 different soft toys in her bed + a security blanket-type thing.

yes, both of mine have slept with a comforter since birth, although actually you're right that it isn't recommended with a newborn.

i think once they can move around and stuff it's fine. I presume the risk is that a newborn could suffocate, but a much older child would roll over or move their head away

It's fine so long as it has no plastic bits that could come away and present a choking hazard. Or long bits of cord, obviously.

Yeah I was worried about the SIDS risk. The Governmnt sites don't give an age when its okay. I'll leave it in there then, thank God no more having to creep in and feel around for the teddy, hopefully my nighttimes will be a bit easier (quieter)from now on.
