Messy mealtimes

Just come to have a bit of a rant/vent. Am sick of the disgusting mess at mealtimes. The juice poured out of the sucky cup onto the table and swished around with hands, the crumbled biscuits and today chocolate cake, the food thrown onto the floor, everything sticky and soggy and yucky. I just cannot be the understanding yummy mummy who views this as learning and interacting. I hate it . There!

how old is your little person? We moved into open cups and my nearly 2 yr old delights and tipping them over the table or puring his dinner intothe water when he has had enough - my hoover is full of decaying food . It passes, - dont react.

CharleeInChains · 20/10/2008 13:47

My 2yr old does this, we live in a fairly small flat and our dining table is in our newley carpeted lounge, every meal time with out fail he will empt his plate onto the table and swish his food around, he can only have non-spill cups or he just tips them up everywhere!

I hate it to so does dp i amf orever hearing 'Harry your sooooo disgusting' from dp but in genral we try to ignore him as to not make a battle.

He is alot better with finger foods tbh so sometimes he mas a pick 'n mix of cheese/grapes/bread/carrot sticks ect for lunch and dinner.

It's just something you have to deal with, it could be worse at least your DC is enjoying and having fun with food.

See it in the same way you do messy painting/ glueing, it's a pain, but they love it.

My friend is teaching her 14 month old DD to cut food with a spoon and fork and is hideously anal about messy meals, she takes it away and feeds it to her herself. I find that a bit sad.

DD is just over two. We sometimes have open cups if I'm feeling up to it. Otherwise its Tomy Tippee non valve sucky cup thing as a compromise. I am ok most of the time. Just had another bad time at lunch so was letting it all out.
