Hi I was wondering if anyone knew or had a child who has a crease on their leg? My daughter has jusr turned 2years and she has always has a crease on each leg just below her private part and another crease on her right leg a couple of inces above her knee. The health visitor said she doesnt know much about anything like this so she needs to see if she can get more info.

hello, i was told this could be a sign of uneven hips. i was also told to look to see if i thought dd walked slightly awkwardly. you could request a hip scan??

Has she chubby legs? Pretty common in toddlers no?

meandmyjoe · 08/10/2008 20:40

If they are symetrical on bith legs then it's normal. Only a sign of poorly hips if one crease is higher than the other or if they are uneven. My ds has these creases as he's got fairly substantial legs like his mummy!

anyfucker · 08/10/2008 20:42

if symmetrical, probably just chubby folds of skin

toddlers are meant to be chubby!

merryandmad · 08/10/2008 20:53

agree with meandmyjoe- problems occur when the creases are not symetrical. put both her legs together- do the creases line up exactly.
my friends dd had a hipp scan for late sitting/moving- she was eight months and did not move/ could not sit up without pillows behind her.

I vaguely remember dd had uneven creases when she was a baby and had to have an x-ray of her hips.

All was fine though.

merryandmad · 08/10/2008 20:54

hip scan rather not baby food

merryandmad · 08/10/2008 20:55

ps. my dd1 asked her aunt, why does new baby have stripy arms?- it was her chubby arms!!!

meandmyjoe · 08/10/2008 20:56

lol I took ages wondering what the heck you were on about then, doh!

lisad123 · 08/10/2008 20:56

my DD1 had them, uneven ones, shes fine just checked her hips

changer22 · 08/10/2008 20:58

All of my 3 have uneven creases. HV was worried about hips, GP pointed out that none of us are symmetrical!

I'm sure it can be an indicator of hip problems but uneven creases doesn't mean there are problems.

tissy · 08/10/2008 21:14

uneven creases are NOT an infallible sign of hip problems.

If he has legs the same length and doesn't limp, in all probability the hips are fine. If he does limp, or you think the leg lengths are different, then he should have an X-ray, not a scan (he's way too old for a scan).

Ask your gp to have a look.

strawberrycornetto · 08/10/2008 21:55

My DD had uneven creases and crawled unevenly. She was referred to check her hips and they were fine

Elibean · 08/10/2008 22:07

dd is nearly 2, not very chubby, and has asymmetrical creases and until recently walked with one foot dragging/turned out: she's fine, been checked, hips ok

But it was worth checking out - because if hips aren't ok, the earlier they get treated the better. So if your dd's are uneven creases, yes, do get a referral or at least a GP appointment. Chances are she's fine, but better safe etc.

Elibean · 08/10/2008 22:08

And was an x-ray to check, along with physio appointment - not scan.

Hi my DS has 1 crease on 1 leg and none on the other, My MILhad great pleasure in telling me at 8 weeks ild he has one leg bigger than an other will need op. Rushed to GP, seen pdiatrican and nothing matter with him, HV didnt have clue, He is now 2.2 and still has one crease.
