Ds has been wetting himself at school every day

since he started full-time in Reception last week.

He's 4.7 and has been toilet trained since he was 3. Is this normal?

I've had a word with the teacher but he just seems to wet himself and not tell anyone.

My DS1 was the same at that age-he never wanted to stop what he was doing to go!
I solved it by getting the teacher just to send him at intervals.

If it continues for more than this week I would expect teacher/assistant to have a system of reminding/taking children to the toilets a couple of times a day until the problem settles down.

He may be preoccupied or else scared of asking to go or of using the toilets or of being unable to find them/find where he is meant to return to. It may well just settle down as he gets used to things - I think there are a lot of accidents when children first start school.

My DD used to sometimes have accidents after lunch when they were playing outside and werent allowed to just go but had to find a supervisor and ask. They started a system of getting her to go before she went out to play. (This was a few years ago now and has been outgrown).

I think I'll have to have another word with the teacher and ask her to remind him.

I felt really sorry for him one day. He started hobbling on the way home and said his leg was hurting. I thought he meant he had cramp but when we got home I realised his trousers were damp so his leg was stinging because of the urine. He'd obviously been wet for some time.

He may well be too engrossed in other things, but also an incredibly stubborn little so and so!

I think I'll try bribery a reward system too.
