Speach in a 17 month old?

Ok so I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance and people to tell me to stop being so neurotic.

Ds is 17 months, bright as a button (just exactly how bright is that ), the only thing is he just isnt interested in speaking at all - he says mamma and dadda but tbh thats it.

He makes noises, points at EVERYTHING so I can tell him what it is etc.

I wasnt particlary worried but it seems that everytime we go out there are babies (todddlers?) the same age that seem to be yabbering away.

I'm just wondering whether I should be concerned.

The poor soul has got no hope if his thicko mother cant even spell speech

I dont think you have anything to worry about...I dont think my DD started talking clearly til nearer 20 months.
Keep talking to him and if he points, ask him what it is.

No need to be concerned, but might be worth doing a quick english course for you though

Hi there. I just wondered if your ds was up to date with his other milestones like pointing etc? I have been worrying about my ds (18 months this week) for ages. He didn't point, wave, talk or do anyhting much. I posted like you have last month asking for reassurance and people were very supportive. And guess what? They were all right! within a few days he had started doing all of the things he was meant to be doing. It just seemed to click. His talking is still more of a jumble of sounds but he has been trying very hard and now says "daddy" clearly and tries to call his sister by her name. I just have the feeling that like his other milestones, he is just a bit less bothered and chilled than other toddlers and it will come when it is going to come. There are so many people on here who have toddlers older than ours not yet speaking. I would certainly leave it until his two year check before it is worth worrying about it. If there is no progress by then you should mention it to the health visitor at the time.

My DS is just over 18mths and has a handful of words - mummy, daddy, car, duck, cat, ball, door, bye-bye, cake - that's about it (and some of them are probably only understood by me)

I reckon boys are generally slower to talk than girls anyway. DD had a much broader vocab at this age. All of my friends' little boys are the same.

If he is pointing and seems to understand, I wouldn't worry at this stage
