Is the throwing of objects a developmental step or is ds just really destructive?

Ds always throws things, tv remote controls, telephones, toys, cups. Hurls them across the room. DH gets really annoyed with him as he's broken a few things already, I'm a bit more relaxed and just try and make sure he doesn't get his hands on anything breakable. Anyway.... just reading a "now we are 1" leaflet the HV gave me a while back and I noticed it lists throwing objects and watching them fall as a developmental stage, along with pincer grasp and banging toys together. Anyone else heard of this?
