Do your kids take non-cuddley toys to bed?

Just interested to know if anyone else's children do this?
My ds, 2, has Lala always, but then takes 2 other toys, cars, trains, airplanes, one clutched in each hand
And when he comes to us in the morning, there they are again with Lala under his arm. Really sweet.

My dd (21m) has books in her cot, a total godsend. In the morning I can hear her reading them and going "moo moo", "woof woof", "quack quack", etc. It's only when I hear the more urgent sounding "mama" and the new word of this week "toast" that I shift my lazy 'arris out of my bed - normally around 8.45 am! She's still in her cot and will be until she can climb out of it, and I'm making the most of it while I can!

I frequently go into his room and find him surrounded by every book he owns, plus his tug boat from the bath,plus like your little man, planes, trains and automobiles. And if you don't mind I get told off the next morning for clearing a space for him to sleep.

He is 3.5 btw

Glad my one isn't the only one who does this. He has Laa Laa, plenty of books (some which make sounds) and a noisy alphabet toy which makes letter sounds and animal/plane/car noises etc.
Frequently hear him playing with all in the mornings. Gives me at least an extra hour in bed.

Yes. Whatever she has been playing with last before bed has to go to bed with her. Books, doctors kits, snow white outfit, you name it.

Even a pen once (I had to stand by her door and wait for her to go to sleep and take it off her so I knew she hadn't hurt herself with it) - the only reason I let her take a pen to bed was because it had been a particularly trying day!

She will be 2 and a half next month.

My Ds went to sleep with Buzz Lightyear for a while. And he has been known to cuddle up with a musical alphabet bus!!

Ds took a battery-operated guitar to bed with him every night for a week, till the novelty wore off. Occasionally heard a rock guitar riff coming from his room in the middle of the night!
Dh says, that's preparation for teenagers.

last week I removed the entire contents of a brand new box of tissues from his bed. (Dh says that's preparation for teenagers too - don't worry, he's making his own profile so he can post gross things himself in future.) He was snuggled up with a wadge of about half of them, and the rest were strewn about the bed. Bit like a giant hamster.

We made a post box the other day (a banana box form sainsburys with a whole cut in it) and DS2 wnet to bed with a whole stack of letters he posted.

He does this all the time and usually has his latest favourite thing on his little chair but when we went to bad he had them covering his whole bed, there most of been about 25 envelopes all around him. They were stuck on all over him because he was so sweaty with all the paper in the bed.

MY 2 year old also takes a selection of things to bed with her, including slices of bread.

DS1 does this every night. Today it's two stacking cups and a triangular link thing (which is a radio to DS1). Last night it was a sail from his Imaginext stuff (called a "sorrow sword"), and the triangular link radio.

There have been phases where his bed (which is an adult-sized single bed!) is full of books and toys.

The one sort of toy that never comes to bed with him, I think, is soft toys!

dd1 insisted on taking her wellies to bed. well, wearing them in bed to be precise. If we sneaked in and removed them and she later discovered this she would scream "my shellies" at the top of her voice. Between them dds have taken books to bed, small bits of lego (really annoying coz they loose them), cars, cups, bandages, slippers,

Just went to check on DS (4) .. he has 1 spiderman, 2 action men, 3 knights, 1 queen, 1 fire-breathing dragon, 2 ninja turtles, 3 transformers, 1 car, 1 rubber ball, a notebook, one of DD's nappies (?), 3 books (the giraffe,the peli and me, the kiss that missed and hercules morse), an empty cup, a bath toy and an old t-shirt

he collected all this stuff since we said goodnight by the way

My Ds has always for as far back as I can remember, took 'Billy Bear' to bed with him everynight, scruffy little thing, I've had to sew up the holes in it so many times!

He once spent a night at his aunties and we forgot to pack it, we ended up having to drive over with it because he wouldn't go to bed without it!

Ds2 (2.4) takes a car in each fist. Ds1 (4) used to do the same but now prefers a cuddly bat from Ikea. We have to fold the bat's wings round him and stand him on his head so ds1 thinks he's asleep.

hatsoff, I had a friend whose DS used to wear his wellies all the time, including in bed!

DS1 used to line up every single one of his metal ERTL Thomas the tank engines beside him in bed - I have pictures!

DS2's thing was Eurostar-type engines and he used to do the same with them.

It's kind of sad when they grow out of this...

It's an affection thing, isn't it? Whatever toy they love best at the moment bedtime strikes, it has to go too. I know of a boy who took his new wellies to bed for weeks on end because he loved them so much. Can sympathise with the noisy toys too - my ds used to take a talking Thunderbirds alarm clock with him and it was rather unnerving to hear "Parker, we're going for a little ride" at 3am every morning!

GS has taken certain cars to bed with him regularly since he was about 12 months old - It's only recently that he has changed to cuddly toys for bedtime and it's so sweet to see him cuddle them. He went to bed with two 'bunnies' last night and laid down with one arm around each one, kissed them and said "night night"...awwww bless
