Dispraxia

My DS's teacher mentioned his difficulties with thing due to his Dispraxia.

What... No one told me.

Well I had my suspicions, that or dysgravia or some such so it is good that things have a label and we can now deal with it.

So...What can I do to help him? Any suggestions/shared experiences would be appreciated.

ask to be referred to an OT - they have lots of suggestions for children with dyspraxia. not sure how old he is, but they can help with things like handwriting and spatial awareness etc...
i'm a bit that the teacher has dx'd dyspraxia tbh - did she actually say 'because of his dyspraxia' in which case i would suspect she has read it on a report somewhere - ed pysch? paed? or did she say 'he shows tendencies which are common in dyspraxic children' or 'could be due to something like dyspraxia'
there is a dyspraxia foundation on the web with lots of advice anyway...

Is he already seeing a paediatrician?

Agree that if he does have motor problems, he should be referred to an OT. Than can assess his motor control and they can best tell you what problems he has and what possible diagnosis would be appropriate.

I think she mentioned it from something she has read. It would have been good if they'd have told me.

The school has a great resource provision and I'm sure OTs are onsite. I think it's time for a chat

I'd ask for a copy of the report that gives this diagnosis. I'd want to know why I had not already received a copy and had not had the diagnosis discussed with me first.

Depending on severity, an OT assessment might be useful but often, OT's are very thin on the ground.
