Anyone else's DC just started Reception and morphed into a raging monster at home?

I was warned that this would happen, but didn't experience it with DS1. DS2 just started in Reception, is not an angel at the best of times, but well behaved at school and says he enjoys it. I guess he is just tired, but he has turned into a whining, tantruming nightmare at home! Picky about the smallest things and very demanding. What do I do? Have not been too hard on him because he is obviously going through a lot of changes. Any advice? Tell me it will pass soon!!

think it takes all her affort to not be an asbo whilst shes there that its a massive fallout at home

My DD always been a bit of a handful - attitude in spades - but she's been absolutely horrible since starting reception this week. Yesterday I picked her up and she was the only one who didn't run up to me smiling. She just stomped up and shouted "don't talk to me mummy!" She's spent so much time on the naughty step in the last 3 days she may as well set up camp there. Sorry, this isn't especially helpful but nice to know I'm not the only one. We too worry about ASBOs!!

Yes yes, here too. DD1 is generally very easy-going but we have had bedtime meltdown every single day since she started. Doesn't want a bath; doesn't want pyjamas; doesn't want to go to bed; doesn't want to stay up...I lost it myself yesterday (she had a splinter in her foot that she wouldn't let me take out) and shouted so loudly I am sure the neighbours would have called the police had they been in! So much for cutting her some slack

Sorry you are experiencing the same, but also glad I'm not alone!! Boogeek, know the feeling - I had to apologise to the woman upstairs cos DS screamed at the top of his lungs for about 20 minutes because the t-shirt he wanted to wear was not dry and he wouldn't choose another one.

My ds has only started doing a couple of hours for the first 2 weeks and I haven't noticed any difference yet

My dd's moods swung like a pendulum when she started Reception - up and manic / down and tearful. It eased off towards the term before Christmas when there was such a buzz of excitement it made the school day seem less of a drain.

My twin boys have just gone into year one and I have found the same!!Had good Summer Hols with them but turned back into terrors now back at school. They too are very well behaved at school. Could it be a release once home from being so good at achool?

He will be exhausted and they all behave badly when tired!

My recipe for this is healthy food, exercise after school, no TV/ computer games & early bedtimes!

I suppose it is a big shock to them, after 6 lovely weeks of being at home doing nothing, then going straight into full days at school. Am avoiding all invites to play at friends after school until he has settled in. Good advice Podrick!
