Hates being on her tummy!

My dd is 7 months old and she lays on her back quite happy and then she turns onto her front and then after about 1 minute she cries until I turn her back over.... Is it worth doing controlled crying to teach her that is is OK to be on her front? Hope this makes sence!

I wouldn't use crying for this, no. If she doesn't learn to like to be on her front, it doesn't actually matter, does it?

I encouraged DS1 to be on his front by putting a mirror in front of him, to give him something to look at. And I encourage DS2 by putting him on the bed, and then getting down next to the bed so he can see me.

Oh my gawd no! I wouldn't dream of leaving her on her tummy crying, the only thing she's likely to learn is to stop trying to roll over in the first place.

My dd HATED being on her tummy right from the outset, she was the only child who screamed when the being on the tummy time came at baby massage when she was tiny. She learned to roll back from her tummy quite quickly after having learned the manoevre your dd's doing now so you could encourage her to do that. I found that as a result of tummy dislike my dd never actually crawled, though she did sit very well by 7 months old and was walking pretty well by 11 months. I think some kids like vertical some horizontal. There will be so many aspects of her character along the way that aren't quite how you think they should be and you have to learn to adapt your expectations and not force issues. Dd is 2.5 now and I'm having to learn that lesson more and more.

Neither of mine liked being stuck on their fronts. I'd just keep letting her do her thing and help her turn back over if she gets stuck/upset.

The tummy thing is weird - lots of people seem really obsessed with it (ie my mum was forever banging on that ds and dd should be spending more time on their tummies!). In the end their dislike of 'tummy time' made no difference to their development at all.

my ds hated being on his front and avoided it at all cost - FWIW he's now a happy, healthy, absolutely-nothing-wrong-with-him 4 year old

I wouldn't leave her to cry no. Some babies (most IME) don't like being on theri tummies at some time or another. You could try giving her a toy when she is on her tummy to see if it distracts her, but don't leave her there if sh continues to cry.

Does she sleep on her tummy?

DS also hated tummy time. He walked at 11 months and has continued to develop well (now 3.5). I remember worrying about it at the time, but think the concept is over-rated.

Just relax! My DD never liked it, the HV kept going on about it to develop her neck muscles, I tried everything, toys, mirrors, books to no avail, so i gave up. Never crawled, went from back to sitting, to bottom shuffling, to walking. At 17 months she still does not know what to do with herself if on her tummy, just cries! However, sometimes she turns on her tummy to sleep without any fuss, and turns back when awake, which I thing is funny. Nothing wrong with her neck by the way, she could keep a head up within her first month!
