Magical Houdini Flameboy & the car seat saga - ADVICE PLEASE!

So, we have him strapped in with a 5 point harness (which he wriggles his arms free of), and then then main belt holding both him and the car seat in.

Driving down the motorway today he wriggled chest free, then UNCLIPPED the whole seat.

HELP

Would one of these hold him back for long?

Desperately trying to not have to spend the £50 on the SN harness but will if I have to to save his life!!

Would going absolutely BLAZING angry at him for a few minutes work?

I did that with DS when he took his seatbelt off (age 3) - he's never done it since cos he's too darn scared!

Have you tried one of those extra clips on the chest part of the 5 point harness. it stopped my DD escaping plus pulling the harness very very tight of course.

You need one of those clips that they only sell in America. No idea what they are called, but they clip the shoulder straps together, making it hard to get off shoulders.

DH made a clip thing (like the ones in US) but he just somehow wriggles through a smaller gap (I dunno if he can dislocate his shoulders or summat )

He is 2.7.

Angry does sod all. I can't see him being all that bothered by the smarties either He doesn't seem to "get" punishment. We have huge issues in general with stopping him doing bad stuff - we are consistent (generally holding on lap for 2 mins explaining why not) but it seems to have no lasting effect.

I think the proper clip will be better because they are about 3cm wide and obviously completely rigid - do you want to borrow it to try?

I would also strap him in without any thick clothes on and do the straps as tight as you can so you can't get your fingers through.

with your reference to SN harness, I take it you've spoken to crelling?

I have a harness on the way for dd1 (4 and ASD). She only came out of a 5-point harness this summer, but escapology isn't her problem.

It's just now that she can move, as strapped in by nice flexible seat belt, she does, and doesn't understand the dangers.

If you need any extra info, (pics/measurements etc), I can let you know once dd's harness arrives if you like.

Yes! It was crelling that I was looking at but I couldn't remember the name I know we need to work on his actual behaviour too, but one thing at a time.

if punishment/not understanding is the issue, then you need to find another way. It is all very well saying work on behaviours, but it si not as though you are condoning it anyway (that prob all sounds really patronising, sorry, am supervising marauding toddlers )

his behaviour is something that will come, given consistency and boundaries, but in the meantime he still needs to be safe - which is where we are at with dd1. On longer car journeys she gets bored, has a bit of a wiggle, and then, if we ask her to sit nicely - that's it, she's off as it gets our attention. we cannot (yet ) reason with her, and so we are just going for the most effective method - strap her down . will let you know how we get on.

we just have a "normal" harness coming, but iirc, they do one with extra "you'll never get this open" buckles as well.
