Anxious children

I just bought a book for my dd who suffers with terrible anxiety and I think it's fab. It's called "What to do when you worry too much: A kid's guide to overcoming anxiety". It teaches CBT techniques and is written by Dawn Huebener, an American clinical psychologist. My dd loves it and is really keen and willing to give it all a go.
Just wanted to share really!

CBT techniques? Am guessing at controlled breathing....something or other? No, no good, tell me.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Yes, breathing, also putting worries in a box, having a "worry time" (sounds really cringey but not actually!)some relaxation exercises etc.

Oh sorry yes, what idris said, I thought you were asking what the techniques are!

How has this worked for your dd then?

thornrose · 26/08/2008 23:09

We only got it today and have just read it together, will start in earnest tomorrow so bit early to be waxing lyrical. She is really happy to try and deal with some of her anxiety and she likes the ideas and way they are presented. I just feel really positive for a change.

thornrose · 26/08/2008 23:19

She's 8, oh god, don't burst my bubble, I thought I'd found a possible end to the blight of anxiety

thornrose · 26/08/2008 23:52

mine is 9.9 and about to go back to her old school site, the one with the rebuilt school.
The old one burnt down during school hours, infront of them, causing massive trauma to a few and having bugger all effect on m ost LOL

Expecting lots of night terrors & neurosis
