What is/was your baby doing at 14 weeks old? Is mine quite advanced?

I'll get hung drawn and quartered for saying this, but mine eats food- feeds himself with a spoon as long as I put the food on the spoon for him. His favourite food is banana, he loved it and cries when it's all gone and refuses his bottle for it sometimes. He feeds himself 'finger foods' (only very basic things at the moment).

He laughs.

He laughs at ceebeebies when the characters or presenters laugh.

When I say 'dada' he says 'ah-ah'. When I make gurgle noises he copies me. When I squeel he squeels and then laughs.

He sits up by himself.

He loves anything colourful.

He laughs his head off when anyone says 'boo'.

He sleeps 11 hours at night.

He holds his own bottle.

He wants to stand up allllllllll the time, he's very strong.

If you say 'kiss' he opens his moth for a kiss, and 'cuddle' he puts his hands either side of his neck. And if you say 'kiss baby' he opens his mouth to kiss his newborn cousin.

And loads of other stuff.

He just seems really advanced to me. Do all babies do these things by 14 and a half weeks old?

agree with MrsMattie and KOMH (great name btw )

MrsMattie · 25/08/2008 18:15

Oh FFS. Report me then. You are being a bit of an arse.

BabyGenius · 25/08/2008 18:16

What other opinions have I not listened to? I'm going to my GP aboutGaviscon am I not? I'm not really going to want to listen to people who are jumping up and down telling me to shut up about my son's achievments am I?

God some people are so over sensitive.

Raven- by the way, I cross posted when I said I make no apologies. I can see that I may have upset you if your own daughter isn't doing those things, sorry, you've given me very valuable advice, it's much appreciated.

oh come on...an arse...

In fairness, this is arsey behavior

Aitch · 25/08/2008 18:17

how are people talking about negative stuff all the time, though? this is your first post... your baby sounds great but really, you won't be making pals with your peer mums if you blether on about what a prodigy he is. and it's not because they can't handle his genius, it's because you don't express it in a particularly attractive way.

BabyGenius · 25/08/2008 18:18

I'm not an arse

I just listed what he's doing. That's it.

Either a troll or a deluded new mum.

If she is a troll she has certainly done a good job of capturing that "my baby is the best baby ever" new mum vibe

BabyGenius · 25/08/2008 18:20

Actually I name changed because I knew I'd get flamed lol.

Why on earth would I say he's doing things he's not? That would be pointless. What a strange thing to think.

I am a new mum, I'm not ashamed to admit it. I love being a mum. I hope I'm this excited and happy when I have baby number 2, and 3, 4, 5 lol.

Aitch · 25/08/2008 18:21

well why get so pissy about it, then? you got what you came for.

BabyGenius · 25/08/2008 18:22

oh my God, what is not to believe about the fact I name changed?? For Goodness sake. Everyone says the opposite of every last thing. You don't need to argue out every single tiny point. I name changed. Big deal.

I'm not getting pissy!!!! Apart from about being called an arse because I think that's nasty and uncalled for. And I don't think name calling is what MN is about.

fgs-stop bickering like a bunch of 5 year olds!!!!!

this is all so pointless when everyone knows MY children are the most advanced children ever-as well as being STUNNING. quite quite stunning. and that is not just me saying that-everyone i ask agrees with me.

so just calm down .

llareggub · 25/08/2008 18:23

Why do you think early weaning is a sign of an advanced baby? Bonkers.

BabyGenius · 25/08/2008 18:24

lol Scottishmummy- love that reply. They are all amazing arn't they? I didn't even like kids until I got pregnant and now I love everything about them! DPs cousin has just had such a bonny little girl and I can't help but cuddle her all the time lol.

I think any baby could feed themselves solids at 14 weeks, at that age everything goes in their mouth so it's not a sign of intellegence. The difference is most of us have the common sense NOT to have a 14 week old baby on solids.

If you insist on solids then you should never offer him it before milk feeds so he should never be allowed to refuse milk in favour of a banana!

It's not a criticism by the way, I just think you really NEED to research the irreversible damage you could be doing to your little genious.

ilovemydog · 25/08/2008 18:25

Think it was the OP's HV who seems to be a bit stuck in the 4 month old weaning, and doesn't abide by the 6 month minimum.
