My little lad is 4 and a half and about to start 'big' school this September. He is quite a good boy, he know the difference from right and wrong, he has very good manners and he and his little sister (2.5yrs) get on well. But this last few months he has turned into a brat. He screams and shouts as soon as he doesn't get what he wants. It has got out of hand. Also he screams his head off at bedtime. I thought the bedtime thing was just a faze but 18 months later its still going strong! We have done everything from leaving him to scream to lying with him for a while. Nothing works! Then lately he has started these almighty paddys. I am at my wits end. He has been watching 'Power Rangers' on TV and has 3 small Power Ranger figures - but today I have thrown them in the bin (in front of him - for punishment for the paddys) and I have banned him from watching them on TV. Have I done the right thing? Or am I being too dramatic?

Pannacotta - well I'm glad we are not alone
then.

Ds is worse when there is a change, we have recently been on holiday (well, it was our honeymoon and ds came too) and his behviour was diabolical. It has been so much better today and we have only been home since friday.

He starts FS1 (nursery) in a few weeks and I'm dreading it.

I think you should not retrieve the toys.
You gave a warning, he ignored you and you followed through in your actions

Tommorrow explain why (if he asks) you took away the toys.

Give him a chance to make ammends and gain back some toys by rewarding good behaviour through a sticker chart

Have to say IME sticker charts and small boys are not a good combo, they seem to mean nothing to them.
I think it's a bit mean to throw away toys - taking them away is one thing but to bin them is a bit barsh IMO.

i would have done the same.. me wee one also 4 has turned into the child from hell she dosent listen to any1 anymore.. she kicks and hits me and shouts and screams at me.

Just to reiterate that he will probably improve once he starts school. My DD1 was a bit of a nightmare last summer but she did calm down once she'd started school - it is a big thing really and they probably have months of everyone talking about it.

I would probably retrieve the power rangers from the bin and hide them for a while - as Pannacotta says.

Nothing wrong with banning/limiting tv
