Is it usual for children to initially find it difficult to walk in shoes?

Just bought the first pair of shoes for ds and he can barely walk in them. He was properly measured in Clarks. They are a size 4 which was what he measured up on the little foot measurer thingy, but when he tries to walk in them it's like his feet are too heavy. it's quite cute really watching him stagger about, but just wondering how long it took other people's dcs to get used to shoes.

Bless him, I'm sure he will get used to them. A couple of thoughts:

Has he been walking for a while?

I seem to remember something about them having to have been walking for 8 weeks before you put them in shoes.

Are they 'first shoes'? These are much lighter.

He's really only been walking a couple of weeks, but we're off on holiday soon and my parents garden in France has lots of grass but it's that funny spiky stuff so I thought I'd get him some light shoes. They are first shoes and as they're for (what we're laughingly) calling summer they're canvas and really light.

ah, you should have seen flame's flameboy trying to walk in shoes the first time he had some on (she is anti-shoes until they can walk.......complete opposite to me)...

he looked so funny, as tho he had blocks of concrete on his feet.

Aww I'm sure he'll get used to the idea.

I remember dd in her first shoes in Clarks. She stood in the shop utterly delighted with them but totally rooted to the spot unable to move a step.

She got the hang of it, but walked like a Spaceman in them for a couple of days

all my 3 did comedy walking for about a week when they had their first shoes - lots of exagerated lifting up of feet and bending over to look.... sweet in hindsight, but I was a bit anxious at the time. dd threw a complete tantrum when she had hers on forthe first time, but now loves them so much she gets apoplectic when you take them off.

aw that's so sweet, at least ds isn't the only one walking like a spaceman. I'm quite anti shoes too, but as we're off to France and the garden is a bit spikey I thought now might be a good time to start. Could be good practice for him too.

Went shopping for first pair of shoes today. There were two little fellas there at the same time getting measured up. One guy ran out the door in his (our fella!) and the other one wobbled about and looked like he was trying to climb a mountain, but he was thrilled with himself. They're all different, but all cute!
