my swimming teacher takes babes from about 8 weeks.

fishie · 09/08/2008 22:05

no rush, swimming pools are a bit full on for small babies.

Thank you - it's just for when I can go with DH and DD.

If you do I would maybe buy a baby wetsuit and limit it to 30 mins or less.

MamaChris · 09/08/2008 22:26

Took ds from about 10 weeks, with a wetsuit otherwise little babies can get really cold in water. He loved it the first time and still loves the pool at 6 months. But our local council pool won't let you in with babies under 4 months. I'd check first that the pool is ok with it so you don't get disappointed if you go.

per my gp at 6 week check yesterday she suggseted waiting til about 10 weeks (2 weeks after the 8 week jabs) to be safe although others are more blase abotu this (wtf she thoguht I might be tempted to follow sharon davies example who took her kids swimming age zero I don't know ).

poppy34 · 09/08/2008 22:32

and is sharon davies as health guru being quoted by gp ..nothign against her per se

poshtottie · 09/08/2008 22:35

fishie, splashabout.net, look at babywrap or babysnug

Check with wherever you are going - most local pools will want your little one to be at least 4 months (when they have had all their jabs) and also, that's when they can have 'lessons' (more water confidence than anything else!).

I took my baby at 8 wks, only staying in 10mins, now we stay in 30mins, we go every week, tis fab!

no one asked me how old he was at the pool..
